There are a number of places to go for a run (or jog or walk 😎) in Oakland. Check out our favorites below!

Lake Merritt

The 3.1-mile path around this urban gem is a perfect spot to practice for your 5k, take a stroll with the kids, or let your dog chase some birds! After you can hit up any number of spots for a bite or a drink including Lake Chalet, Barlago, Grand Tavern, Merritt Bakery or so many more.

The Estuary

If the fresh water running scene isn't for you then head to the estuary and breathe in the salty sea air. Not everyone realizes Oakland is right on the water, so if you're one of those people make sure you take in our miles of shoreline. You'll catch some great views of the classic cranes at the port and of downtown San Francisco.

The Hills

Also known as the I-can't-believe-this-is-Oakland area. The uphill battles will be well worth it when you see the views from up there, especially from the beautiful Mormon Temple. Joaquin Miller Park and Redwood Regional Park are great spots that get you deep into nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Races

Looking for a little competition with your run? The Oakland Running Festival and Oaktown Half Marathon plan to be back in full swing this year. We'll see you on the trails!
